AN INDEPENDENT EYE
With ever-diminishing production timescales, including the rapidity and ease of online publishing, the temptation to bypass the proofreading stage (“It should be OK”) even on larger-scale, high-value projects is all too prevalent – and that can, potentially, be very risky. The “quick proofread” final sign-off is, in fact, something of a contradiction. Working closely on a project (in some cases, over a period of weeks or months) can desensitize your awareness of errors and inconsistencies, which could result in irretrievable harm or embarrassment and even undesirable reprint complications. My editing knowledge, experience and exactitude is based on many years as a designer, artworker, production director, proofreader and copywriter in successful design, marketing and publishing environments. This stemmed from a BA (Hons) degree in graphic design and is grounded in traditional skills which transitioned to Apple Mac and associated digital technology from its inception. |
DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU’RE
LOOKING FOR? Your project may undergo many rounds of alteration during production, amalgamating content, edits and comments from various sources. ‘Spell-check’ is useful, but it cannot identify incorrect words or names, irregular spacing, defaulted or inconsistent formatting, incorrect fonts, bad line breaks, detail in charts and graphs, wrongly-sequenced folios, illegibility, poor grammar, repetition, or duplicated, hidden or missing content. Therefore, your work requires the independent scrutiny of professional, accurate proofreading from a trained, methodical eye with typographic and recognition skills honed over time. The service I provide is just that, working on projects large and small, with each quoted on the basis of their requirements. On the right are the areas with which I am mostly (though not exclusively) associated. I am also a musician with business and interest in the spheres of classical music and contemporary jazz, as well as holding a lifelong enthusiasm for photography/art. |
